Avoid stress – give your life a healthy rhythm

Sometimes everything gets just too much. Life is disorganised and hectic and there’s not even time for a little break. Such periods of pressure and excessive external stimuli upset our inner equilibrium. This is when the body can become vulnerable to disease. Learn to follow your inner rhythm and create the best conditions for a healthy equilibrium.

A rigid beat destroys, but rhythm transforms – a succinct explanation for how stress occurs and what we can do about it. If, like Charlie Chaplin in the film Modern Times, we just get through our work and leisure time functioning like a machine, following a rapid, never-changing beat, in the long term we endanger our health and – to stay with the Charlie Chaplin analogy – risk getting caught up in the cogs. In contrast, if we manage to integrate a healthy rhythm into our daily lives, with changes of pace – phases of exertion and relaxation – we can avoid symptoms of stress such as lack of appetite, anxiety, insomnia or the feeling of losing control.

Little rituals

Develop little rituals to give your day a rhythmical structure. They help to bring you back to yourself. Whether you drink a cup of tea in peace and quiet before starting the day or take 10 minutes in the afternoon to just sit outside in the sun is entirely up to you. But beware: don't let the little ritual become a strict routine – stay flexible.

Sleeping and eating rhythms

Plan your sleep and your eating habits by giving your body a definite timetable to go by. For example, try to get up and go to bed at the same time each day. Regularity is the anchor that keeps the body’s own biological rhythms on an even keel. There is nothing worse for you than falling asleep in front of the television or gulping down a meal late in the evening.

Relaxation exercises

Relaxation exercises such as curative eurythmy can also help you to find your balance again. While exercising be conscious of your movements and feel how you automatically become calmer. It is also important to let go and listen to one’s inner voice. Allow yourself enough spaces where you are not so restricted by commitments that you lose sight of your own needs.

Nature helps – with WALA Medicines

WALA Avena comp., Globuli velati*, with their formulation of oats and soothing valerian (Valeriana officinalis), as well as high homeopathic potencies of phosphorus and sulphur, help alleviate evening anxiety and make it easier to get to sleep. Preparations of oats (Avena sativa) are a traditional remedy for nervous exhaustion, which is often accompanied by lack of appetite, and for insomnia, lack of concentration resulting from worry, and palpitations. Once a day allow 5–10 globules to dissolve under the tongue or, in the case of difficulty getting to sleep or staying asleep, take 10–30 globules 30 minutes before going to bed.

In cases of stress and emotional pressures, WALA Strophantus comp., Globuli velati* strengthen the compromised Rhythmic System. Strophanthus (Strophanthus kombe), a liana from the jungles of tropical Africa contains the cardiac glycoside strophanthin. In combination with homeopathically potentised gold (Aurum metallicum) and antimony (Stibium metallicum), homeopathically potentised preparations from strophanthus seeds strengthen the heart, the central carrier of rhythm. Unless otherwise directed, allow 5–10 globules to dissolve under the tongue three times a day.

WALA Passiflora Nerventonikum* is a tonic that offers targeted relief from anxiety – with the help of passion flower, among other ingredients. St. John’s wort reduces oversensitivity of the nervous system, while hawthorn fruit serves to calm cardiac activity. Oat herb, hops and valerian also unfold their soothing effect in the Passiflora Nerventonikum tonic. Add one to three teaspoons of the nerve tonic to a little warm water and sip before going to bed. You can also leave some in a glass on your bedside table, "just in case".

WALA Solum Öl* fortifies and revitalises the organism and strengthens the body’s boundaries against external influences. The oil contains a peat extract from the high moors (Solum uliginosum) which gives it its name. This forms an invisible but perceptible protective shield and warms gently. Solum Öl also contains lavender essential oil, which has a soothing and relaxing effect. Unless otherwise directed, rub the oil in once or twice a day and then keep your body warm.
