

The rhythmic system is the mediator between the two opposing poles of the nerve-sense system and the metabolic-limb system. It creates and maintains health, that is a labile state of equilibrium which must be constantly re-established and which consists in harmonious interaction between the four human elements. Departures from the healthy balance lead to the numerous manifestations of disease. This concept of a physical-spiritual functional order which recognises that the whole human being is endowed with a soul, permits a comprehensive view of physiological, pathological and therapeutic problems. The therapeutic goal derives from the necessary task of restoring the balance between the different forces which has been lost.
